Ed's letter.
Hello and welcome to the web site for Ramsey.
Ramsey is an old historical town built around the Abbey Monastery and the once important waterways and train service which serviced Ramsey to Peterborough. Through the ages the economic and changing face of the area has drastically altered the way Ramsey has developed.
A once thriving market town which allowed the transport of goods and passageway to other areas is now a quiet tranquil town with a small market remaining on Saturdays.
The area is slowly developing, albeit with housing for small family's and single occupancy flats it does bring more people to the town. The town is served by ample education and leisure facilities, swimming, squash courts, gymnasium, tennis and various sports and social clubs. (search the site for more info)
The main shopping area is around what I call the T-bone section at the high street junction connecting with the Great Whyte.
At one time the stream which flows beneath the Gt Whyte road was partly opened for which was used to transport goods by boat mainly from the Mill at the top of the Gt Whyte which is now, of course flats. oh well, that's progress!!
The train service is now well long gone and only real way to visit other towns and city's is by car or use infrequent bus services.
For the town to prosper we need a real plan to bring back sustainability to businesses and improve infrastructure. We do not need any more "visions", discussion meetings, thoughts, ideas or any other useless projects or mandates, or time wasting dead from the start ideas from those who know what's best for the town. Are you too fed up with the rough treatment we get whilst other towns seem to have money thrown to them. A few paving slabs and a hanging basket is not enough and very poor.
Lets have action and the raising of all voices to the local and district council that we cannot no longer tolerate this appalling and disgusting lack of inspiration and apathy which is now permanently sent in. period.
Do you agree or disagree, then e-mail your thoughts to editor@ramseytown.comThere are now so many empty shop units and businesses up for sale that I believe is now a local crisis and those who do not believe this are either blind or uninterested, please support your town and shop local whenever possible. We know the faces who do not shop in Ramsey so never ever complain again by the lack of resources and variety of shops. You have what you created directly and indirectly. Blame only yourselves and enjoy your many flats and lack of parking and do not cry when your kids want to move away to more exciting towns.
I am sorry if this sounds strong but we the town's people have had enough. We only want the best for this area and the town's people deserve this.
On behalf of myself and the many disgruntled and angry residents.
Regards and best wishes Al Gisonni
